THIN feature with different material sides, SolidWorks

We all know that with SolidWorks, you can create a THIN feature using a single sketch made up of non-connecting entities. In the following example, we create a sketch with 2 separate lines, but drawn from different directions.

Step 1

Create the sketch required. In the example, we created a sketch on an existing Boss (below).

Step 2

In the Sketch, the first line was drawn from left to right. The second line was also drawn from left to right (below).

Step 3

Completing the Thin Feature, we added a depth of 0.10″ and a THIN value of 0.10″ in one direction only (below).

The resulting Thin feature is aligned as shown below.2016-10-26_1511

Step 4

In the following Sketch, the first line was drawn from left to right. The second line was drawn from right to left (below).

Completing the Thin Feature, we added a depth of 0.10″ and a THIN value of 0.10″ in one direction only. The resulting Thin feature is misaligned as shown below. 2016-10-26_1518_0012016-10-26_1518
